Can Winter Please Be Over Now?

As I have previously mentioned, this winter has been rather sucky. Emphasis on rather. And sucky. For the first few weeks of January I'm pretty sure the temperature was never above freezing and there was always snow on the ground (kill me). Plus the inversion layer kept us from spending too much time outside since the air quality was too dangerous for Baby Jack's precious lungs. So we had no other choice but to keep busy inside. Since our apartment gets boring (and quickly) we found some new places to play. Here's a glimpse of how we spent our time:

Dinosaur Museum.

Don't be fooled by the pictures - I dug up this entire dinosaur (which took longer then I want to admit) and then Jack worked hard to cover it back up. It was rather frustrating and I had to stop myself from scolding him, so I decided I should be the adult and just stand in the background and take pictures. That's what adults do, right?

The Circus.

Don't make me say it again. Okay I will. I love all things carny - funnel cakes, cotton candy, Water For Elephants, ferris wheels, candy apples, and deep fried hot dogs. (I know what you are thinking, and yes I have had several cavities). When I saw the circus was in town and the grocery store had free children's tickets we were soooo there. Oh and see those elephants? Jack and I rode them. No big deal.

The Tumbling Gym.

So we love the tumbling gym. Like a lot. We go weekly and the people who work there know us. It really is the perfect place to play when it is cold outside. We are not at all skilled in the "art" of tumbling (you def won't find us doing any flips), but we sure love running around there. And so of course we are having Jack's big birthday bash there.

Bowling.

I almost never go bowling. If you listen to Jim Gaffigan you'll know why. But recently both Garrett and I were in a weird mood and thought it sounded fun. Jack had never been bowling and he was totally into it, but then we hit about frame seven and he was over it. I mean, why spend your time bowling when you can walk around begging people for quarters to play arcade games?

The Aquarium.

Jack has been to lots of aquariums - San Diego, Dallas, Grapevine - and he has always loved them. I took him to the aquarium in Utah a few weeks ago and it did not go as well as I had expected. Instead of running up to the tanks Jack was really cautious and also seemed to think that all the fish were going to hurt him. I am a little unsure of how this fear formed; the only thing I can think of is that I started letting him watch the first scene in Finding Nemo. Apparently he still isn't old enough. My bad.

While this winter has been crappy weather-wise, we have been able to keep busy and happy. Hopefully you have done the same. Or maybe you live in Texas where it is 70 degrees mid- January. In that case, I hate you.
